ART RESIDENCY

Artists and other creative professionals can stay and work elsewhere temporrily by participating in artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities. These opportunities offer conditions thar are conducive to creativity and provide their guests wiht context, such as working facilities, connections, audience, etc…

RESIDENCY PROFILES

No artist-in.residence programme is the same. Each programme or guest studio, large or small, established or experimental, has ots own background and atmosphere. Working periods differ enormously: from two weeks to six months or sometimes even a year. Some specialize in one discipline, others are open to a great number of disciplines. there are also a lot of differences in financial resources, housing and studio facilities, application and selection procedures, coaching, exhibiting, networking.

Participation is planned a long time in advance, usually six monyhs, sometimes years ahead.

Nikki Luna studied visual art and Women and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines. 2018 she received the prestigious Chevening Award to conduct a master in Art and Education at Goldsmiths University London, UK. In the same year she authored the book I Love my Body to raise body awareness among girls. She is the founder of the independent feminist publishing house Power In Her Story, creating books focusing on mainstreaming human rights and gender equality, with emphasis on the needs of marginalized groups of girls and women. In 2016, she was the recipient of a grant from the Asian Cultural Council. She exhibited her work already at Aichi Triennale, Japan, Singapore Biennale and Beijing Biennale. In 2015, she was one of the CCP 13 Artist awardees.
As an activist, she conducts art therapy workshops in conflict zones in the Philippines;

Arnau Casas Farell, was born in Palma de Mallorca and raised in Barcelona.
He studied Illustration and Painting in Barcelona, and kept his studies in Pilzen and Prague, making several exhibitions in Central Europe and Barcelona.
He keeps working in Barcelona where he has his studio.

Reem Alfahad came to Barcelona to collaborate with Emeka Okereke and engaged in his podcast bringing her point of view and contributing with her perspective.

Emeka Okereke is a Nigerian visual artist, writer and DJ who lives and works between Lagos and Berlin, moving from one to the other on a frequent basis. A past member of the renowned Nigerian photography collective Depth of Field (DOF), he holds a bachelor’s/master’s degree from the Ecole Nationale supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris and has exhibited in biennales and art festivals in cities across the world, notably Lagos, Bamako, Cape Town, London, Berlin, Bayreuth, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Brussels, Johannesburg, New York, Washington, Barcelona, Seville, Madrid and Paris.

Artist working in the field of film, photography, installation, collages and live art. Mali has shown her work extensively in Europe, Russia and USA. Lives and works in London and Moscow. Born in Post Soviet Republic of Dagestan, North Caucasus, Natalia Mali studied art theory at History Department of Moscow State University. In 1994 she moved to US and between 1995 and 1999 studied film and photography at the Yale School of Art and Architecture, Yale University, USA. In 2005-2006 she attended an MA program at the Drama Department, Goldsmiths College, University of London where she worked on her theses on Performance and Culture.

Sa’dia Rehman is a transdisciplinary artist whose work is fueled by a critical exploration of Muslim American identity and how it intersects with race, power and gender. Through performance, video, installation and large-scale wall drawing, Sa’dia obsessively pulls apart and puts together “images of consumption”, including: family photographs, mass media and art historical images.

Dizmology is the name of Miguel Ovalle’s creative workshop. Miguel is a painter, conceptualist and designer born in Miami, who has been creating murals, installations and clothes for about 18 years. Under heavy influence of hip-hop and graffiti, the time he spent living and working in Japan, and his love of both punk design and afrofuturist aesthetic.

Multidisciplinary artist, restless creative, designer, stylist, illustrator, interior designer, window dresser, muralist… it is difficult to define someone as multifaceted as Lauro Samblás, without falling short.

From his childhood in Puertito de Güimar (Tenerife), comes his love for the summer, for the light and the landscape of the Canary Islands that inspire him so much, and that has become another element of his work. Whimsical geometric shapes of vivid colors, which work like the pieces of a strange puzzle, in which he shamelessly mixes techniques, supports and materials, and which he has managed to make absolutely recognizable and unique.
